The swamp white oak is an excellent legacy shade tree that tolerates a wide variety of soils and tough sites. This oak has dark green leaves with a silvery underside and rough-capped acorns on long stems. This tree has a pyramidal canopy that becomes wide-spreading with age. Requires very little formative pruning to develop strong branch structure. Resistant to oak wilt but not immune. Prune only in winter to prevent oak wilt infection.
