My name is Rita Ryan and I am a Lakeville watercolor artist who has sold my works throughout the United States. As a member of the Heritage Active Adults, I enjoy painting on Friday afternoons with other artists from our community. All supplies will be provided for our workshop but feel free to bring your own. The Lakeville Police Department’s role has consistently been to serve and protect the entire Lakeville community, including residents, visitors, workers, business owners, students, worshippers, public safety officers and many others. That commitment has not changed. Race, age, gender, culture, immigration status or any other personal characteristic does not factor into how individuals are valued or treated by local law enforcement. Members of the Police Department take an oath to serve everyone in our community.
The Police Department’s relationship with federal law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has historically been limited to assisting, when requested, in matters involving criminal activity. Civil immigration enforcement is not something the Lakeville Police Department has been involved in, either in the past or at present.
If law enforcement activity by any agency were to evolve into a broader public safety situation within Lakeville, the City’s role would be to help ensure the safety of everyone involved — including bystanders, peaceful demonstrators and public safety officials carrying out their duties.
We understand that widely shared videos and public messaging can raise concerns. Residents who have questions or are worried about something they observe are encouraged to reach out to the Lakeville Police Department or the City directly. We remain committed to transparency, communication and maintaining the trust we’ve built with our community.
